Jesus Has Come!

Merry Christmas!

The Christmas holiday season has been quite different for my family. My brother is still overseas-like her has been for the last 3 Christmas's, but now my mom lives in Florida and unfortunately can't come home for Christmas.

While it may be different than other years, we are still making the best of it and enjoying the time we have together! We never know when one Christmas holiday season will be the last one we spend with our family as a whole. Meaning who knows when the next sibling will run off and be into something new with their life!

I did want to share a Christmas song I wrote a few years ago. I've always wanted to do a Christmas song as it seems like there aren't many out there...and as usual God didn't disappoint me!

Hope you have a very special Christmas this year and that the new year is simply amazing!

Puppy Love

It's been a crazy month with many ups and downs and all I've been thinking-especially in the last two weeks is....I just have to survive till Christmas Eve. Well, that's tomorrow...so wohoo!!!! I made it!

The last two weeks have been overwhelming to say the least, and quite honestly I haven't focused very much on what's been going on. Just put one foot in front of the other and kept going...hard all day long. Last week every day I was awake at 4:30 am and got right to work and continued until I went to sleep at 10:00 pm. It was nuts and crazy, but I kept in mind that "this too shall pass" and "God is faithful to bring me through!"

I couldn't have done it without God being there and helping me each and every day, but boy am I glad to have it over.

Tomorrow starts my Christmas holiday and I intend to relax and enjoy myself as much as possible!

Today I took my dog Judah to the vet for a checkup and it wasn't the greatest report, but I am trusting that the Lord will create a miracle healing in his body and that all will be well by the next checkup this coming Monday.

Tonight I was able to snap this cute picture that just grabs my heart every time I look at it! It just made my day!

My sister and our baby puppy-Juni. notice how my sister's doll-she's had it since she was a baby, has had to take a back seat to the puppy love!

Merry Christmas!

God is on Time-P.U.S.H.

God is on Time was written on February16-17, 2011.

The way I got the idea was very special and actually the very date I got the idea was on Christmas day in 2010. It had been a rough holiday season-well it'd been rough for quite a few months, but my holidays that year were like no other year before.

I was actually working at an assisted living home and while I loved working with the people, the work was hard, stressful and very draining. Quite often you were doing the work of three people in just one 8 hour shift. It was difficult and I struggled almost every day to keep my attitude right and to be a light to the people around me.

They had a policy where if you worked one holiday-Thanksgiving or Christmas-you'd get the other one off...and you'd either work the day before or after but you'd at least get one day off around the holiday you worked.

So I worked Thanksgiving. Which was great as my family really wanted to spend Christmas day together. Then a week or two before Christmas 3 people up and quit...who does that? So our work load and days the rest of the employees had to work increased. I was also asked if I could work on Christmas day. At least out worked out that I was able to split my shift with a friend so I wouldn't have a full shift, but I was still disappointed.

I did the same thing I did every other day I worked and felt upset, down, depressed or whatever other emotions I was feeling. I prayed. I asked God to help me be a light to the people I was helping. To let me shine for him and asked if he could please just give me a special blessing that would brighten my day.

God always answers when you seek him. Every time I asked him to help me through a day he would give me a bible verse or a song that would go through my head all. Day. Long. It was something that may not seem like much, and maybe to some it would seem annoying, but to me it gave me strength to get through the day. It also made me feel special-like God was watching over me and loved me enough to fill my day with joy.

I arrived at the home-still continually praying that he would work in me and help me keep my attitude right as I was working the day before, the day of and the day after Christmas. God came through for me!

I was running around getting medication to some of the residents when one of my co-workers pulled me aside. She told me that she'd heard something from her pastor and wanted to share it with me. Despite being super busy, I stopped to politely listened. Here's the story she told me (I actually found the story she told me online and just copied that below. http://www.fathershands.com):

Pray Until Something Happens

A man was sleeping one night in his cabin when suddenly his room filled with light, and God appeared.

The Lord told the man he had work for him to do, and showed him a large rock in front of his cabin. The Lord explained that the man was to push against the rock with all his might. So, this the man did, day after day.

For many years he toiled from sun up to sun down, his shoulders set squarely against the cold, massive surface of the unmoving rock, pushing with all of his might. Each night the man returned to his cabin sore and worn out, feeling that his whole day had been spent in vain.

Since the man was showing discouragement, the Adversary (Satan) decided to enter the picture by placing thoughts into his weary mind:

"You have been pushing against that rock for a long time, and it hasn't moved."

Thus, he gave the man the impression that the task was impossible and that he was a failure. These thoughts discouraged and disheartened the man. Satan said,
"Why kill yourself over this? Just put in your time, giving just the minimum effort; and that will be good enough."

That's what the weary man planned to do, but decided to make it a matter of prayer and to take his troubled thoughts to the Lord.

"Lord," he said, "I have labored long and hard in your service, putting all my strength to do that which you have asked. Yet, after all this time, I have not even budged that rock by half a millimeter. What is wrong? Why am I failing?"

The Lord responded compassionately,

"My friend, when I asked you to serve Me and you accepted, I told you that your task was to push against the rock with all of your strength, which you have done. Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it. Your task was to push. And now you come to Me with your strength spent, thinking that you have failed. But, is that really so? Look at yourself. Your arms are strong and muscled, your back sinewy and brown; your hands are callused from constant pressure, your legs have become massive and hard. Through opposition you have grown much, and your abilities now surpass that which you used to have. True, you haven't moved the rock. But your calling was to be obedient and to push and to exercise your faith and trust in My wisdom. That you have done.
Now I, my friend, will move the rock."

At times, when we hear a word from God, we tend to use our own intellect to decipher what He wants, when actually what God wants is just simple obedience and faith in Him. By all means, exercise the faith that moves mountains, but know that it is still God who moves the mountains.

When everything seems to go wrong ... just PUSH!
When the job gets you down ... just PUSH!

When people don't react the way you think they should..... just PUSH!

When your money is "gone" and the bills are due ...just PUSH!

When people just don't understand you ... just PUSH!

After my friend told me that story, it was as if God had shown me to keep doing what I was doing. He would move those mountains when the time was right. He WAS and still IS working in my life. I just needed to keep on Praying Until Something Happened. Keep faithful to him.

Each of the verses touches on struggles we go through in life. The first verse touches on how you've been praying for so long that you're beginning to feel like giving up. Your joy, peace and happiness feels like it's gone and there is no hope of getting it back. You begin to think and even believe...if God had just come through this wouldn't have happened!

The second verse talks about how your heart and arms are empty because of the trials you've been through.
Perhaps you've been looking for that one person who will be your true love and God just hasn't brought them into your life.
Maybe you've wanted a child for so long, but nothing has happened or maybe you've had a child and God took that precious life to heaven.
At last you just fall into tears and your heart never feels full from all the loss you feel.

The third verse reminds us that we must keep looking to God through those moments in life where you never seem to make headway. To remember that God has a purpose in all that happens and he will be gloried as he works in our lives!

And finally the chorus:

God is one time, my friend,
Pray until something happens,
For he has not left you alone,
Just have faith he's by your side,
God is on time.

Trust, believe and keep the faith!

Cookie day!

At last the day has arrived! It's time to get oodles and oodles of delicious cookie making going! What I have planned is my cut out cookies-with loads of butter-cream frosting and sparkly sprinkles, the ultimate chocolate chip cookies, white velvet cookies-also with frosting and sprinkles, rice krispsy treats and apple bread.

I did get a a head start yesterday by making Cookies & Cream Fudge-which is: Out. Of. This. World. DELICIOUS!!!! Imagine Oreo cookies with just the right amount of cookie and dream....I mean cream.

It's very simple to make and a wonderful treat of you-and if you decide to let share-your family and friends to enjoy!

Cookies & Cream Fudge

Cookies and Cream Fudge

  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter or margarine
  • 2/3 cup (5 fl.-oz. can) Evaporated Milk
  • 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) White morsels
  • 1 jar (7 oz.) marshmallow creme
  • 1/2 cup finely crushed cream-filled chocolate sandwich cookies
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 cup crumbled cream-filled chocolate sandwich cookies

Directions

LINE 9-inch-square baking pan with foil.

COMBINE sugar, butter and evaporated milk in medium, heavy-duty saucepan. Bring to a full rolling boil, stirring constantly. Boil, stirring constantly, for 3 minutes. Remove from heat.

STIR in morsels, marshmallow crème, finely crushed cookies and vanilla extract. Pour into prepared pan. Sprinkle crumbled cookies on top. Gently swirl cookies into fudge using a knife without touching bottom of pan. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm. Lift from pan; remove foil. Cut into 48 pieces. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

 Tip:

The 9 inch pan makes a super think fudge so this year I not only doubled the recipe, but I poured the fudge into 2- 15 inch cookies sheets. This made the perfect thickness and allowed for cutting the perfect sized piece. Trust me...this is one rich fudge-you'll want it to me a tad thinner than it would be by putting it in a smaller pan.
Happy baking!

Ultimate Cookie

One more day and then I will be in the midst of a baking frenzy! While I am looking forward to it I know it will be an exhausting day! But I already have my night planned for the perfect chill...a night at the movies with friends, popcorn and the new Hobbit film!

Here is one of the cookie recipes I will be making tomorrow. I love this recipe! You can make HUGE cookies and they turn out perfect! There have been days where I make a batch and get 24 large cookies. I eat like, 2 or 3. My brother comes home between 4-6 from work and all but a few are gone by the time I go to bed at 9:30/10:00 pm.

Now whenever I tell anyone that these are THE ultimate chocolate chip cookies...they roll their eyes. But they always end up asking for the recipe and agreeing with me! Try them and you may find your new favorite chocolate chip cookie!

THE ULTIMATE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE
Makes 2 dozen large cookies

1 cup butter, melted (no substitutes)
¾ cup white sugar
¾ cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla
2 ½ cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2-3 cups chocolate chips*

Stir melted butter and sugars; mix well. Stir in eggs and vanilla. Combine flour, soda and salt and stir into butter mixture. Stir in chocolate chips. Using an ice cream scoop, drop dough onto ungreased baking sheet, two inches apart.

Bake in 325* oven for 12-13 minutes. DO NOT OVERBAKE! Let rest on cookie sheet 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.

Tips:

~*you can use any kind of chocolate-I've used chunks and I know of
some people who've used cut up chocolate bars.
~Mix by hand, do NOT use a mixer
~Only use a plastic or metal bowl, do NOT use glass
~MUST use real sugar and white flour! :-)
~It may look like the cookie isn't done when it comes out of the oven, but as long as you don't have it too thick it will be fine...be sure to let it sit for 5 minutes!

Enjoy!!!! And please be sure to share the cookies...your waistline will thank you! ;)

Holiday Fun!

Every year we all have traditions around the holidays that make it special for our family. For my family, there are movies, shopping, wrapping gifts, Christmas music and all sorts of homemade goodies!

I've already begun watching Christmas movies-including my favorite White Christmas-which generally is viewed at least four times from Thanksgiving to Christmas. I've got all my shopping done and will soon begin wrapping everything-which to me is even more fun than shopping!

The final piece of the holiday fun, before the actual holidays, is baking loads and loads of cookies! I've actually had to hold myself back from starting as I've set aside this Thursday as the day to do that project. And boy is it a project!

I've got at least 4-5 different goodies I'm planning on  making and then I have some friends coming over to assist in making some of their own recipes as well. Overall, I should have plenty to share with friends and family.

Here is our absolute favorite cut-out cookies recipe. One of the reasons I love it so much is that you don't have to refrigerate it. Yay! We've used it in our family since I was a little girl and trust me...it is the best!

Cut-out Cookies

1 Cup Butter
1 Cup Sugar
1 Egg
3 Tbsp. Milk
1 Tsp Vanilla
3 Cups Flour
1 1/2 Tsp Baking Powder
1/2 Tsp Salt

Preheat over to 400*.

In mixing bowl cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg, milk, vanilla. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt until well mixed. Roll out dough and cut. Bake 5-8 minutes.

It also taste delicious with this frosting!

Vanilla Butter Frosting

3 Cups Confectioner Sugar

1/3 Cup Butter (5 1/3 Tbsp)

1 1/2 Tsp Vanilla

About 2 Tbsp Milk

Blend butter and sugar. Stir in vanilla and milk until frosting is smooth and of spreading consistency.

Bumps, Bruises, Blessings

Ever since the day we took my mom down to sunny Florida it has been one thing after another! First, we picked my brother up from the airport on November 5-which also happens to be my birthday!

It was wonderful having him home after not seeing him for over 25 months! Then that Saturday, November 9, my mom, brother, Mike and I began our journey south!

Two hours into the trip, one of the vehicles we were taking down decided it didn’t want to continue the rest of the way with us. So we had to grab some luggage and boxes and move them around and make space in the other vehicle so the three of us could drive down in one car. We now had no clue what my mom was moving down with as we had to leave most of her stuff with the broken down car, we had no idea what was wrong with the other car-just that it wasn’t going anywhere-and Mike and I now had no way to get home-the truck was our ticket back.

We made it down to Georgia the next day and were able to spend a relaxing and refreshing time with some of our family-who we hadn’t seen in years! It was a nice and much needed break in our trip! The next day we drove the rest of the way to Florida! When we arrived, we quickly unpacked everything and then went to the airport to pick up my sister-who was flying down from PA. At last we were able to get some more-much needed rest!

Haven't seen my cousin in well over 5-6 years!

Now it may have seemed like the one car breaking down was a bad thing-and it was. We had no clue how much money it would cost to fix it. But it was a good thing in that I wasn’t feeling so good most of the trip down, so with three of us in one car I didn’t actually have to drive past those first two hours! God knew what was needed!

Then in terms of the truck that was left behind-which is my sister’s truck. It was a hassle to get it back to PA, but because we were all in FL. Our Pastor graciously went down to try and get the truck, but the thing was still being stubborn! It refused to budge! So my sister called our mechanic and it finally worked out where he said he would take care of it all!

So the truck finally made its way to his shop-actually it arrived the day after we got back from Florida! Then….we’ll jump ahead a little here-last week he gave my sister the bill. We all had a number in our head as to how much it would cost. We had guessed that it was a transmission problem-which we were told was super expensive to fix. So I’m thinking at least $1,000 and my sister was thinking at least $2,000.

What was the total, including the towing cost????? $300. Yeah, I had that shocked look on my face too when my sister told me. I’m not good with mechanics on cars but there was some kind of box that cracked -which caused the car to not be able to move at all. We were told that even that fix would be almost as expensive as getting the transmission fixed. But God worked it out and once again our mechanic was such a blessing to us!

Okay, now you have to jump back in time to the Florida trip…we left on a Saturday morning and arrived Monday evening in Florida. Thursday morning was the start of a family vacation to Disney! It was our second time going there-at least for us youngsters-and it was the best vacation we’ve had! We also were able to have a mini family reunion with my Aunt and her family-which was so much fun! We were able to relax and have loads of fun riding rides and eating until we were super stuffed! That dining plan really fills you up!

Where we stayed....it was awesome!

Time with family well spent!

First place we ate at was Rain Forest Cafe-I recommend it!

My sister recommends their Volcano!!!!! Love the look on her face-had me laughing through the whole trip!

We then headed back to my mom’s place-which is a short hour and a half away from Disney-that Sunday night and tried to come up with ideas on how Mike and I were going to make it back to PA. We finally were able to find a rental car that wasn’t too expensive, but Mike wanted to drive the whole way back without stopping for an overnight rest-which I really can’t do. It would have been hard enough me driving as I still wasn’t feeling the greatest.

My sister decided that instead of flying back she would drive with us, so with that settled we determined to head back to PA Tuesday morning. We spent the rest of Monday at the beach, in the pool and in the jacuzzi!

Yup! He's lovin it!

Well, we get to the rental place, on Tuesday, and there was a hiccup in being able to rent the car. After many calls back and forth we were able to have a friend help us get the car, but we were postponed in leaving by over three hours. We weren’t sure how this was going to work as we were going to drive all night and meet my brother in PA at the drop off spot for the rental. He was then going to take us home and go to work. With the delay, it was going to cause us a challenge with that plan.

But once again God had it worked out! Because we left a few hours later, we were able to have breakfast with my mom and help her feel more settled about her move. We made great time on the road-22 hours never went so fast- and arrived in PA at a perfect time for my brother to still get a good days work in.

We then had Thanksgiving with Mike for the first time since he joined the Air Force. Now usually when he comes home we’ll do a Thanksgiving dinner, but this was the first time it was on the “proper” day! ;)

We then did some shopping on Friday-all four of us together-which was great fun!

We only had my brother home for a few more days, but we tried to squeeze in as much as we could with him! Including game night with two good friends!

Then this past week-hard to believe only a week has gone by!

What a week this past week has been! It started off with us sending my brother back home to Germany-where he is stationed with the Air Force-on December 2nd. It was also opening day for rifle season in PA-which my youngest brother has been going out to try and get his deer this year.

Then Tuesday, while I was working on bringing wood into the house, my dogs escaped! I had just double checked the door to be sure it was closed, but one of them went and scratched at the door and it opened-out they ran! I was screaming at them to come back! As its rifle season I hardly even let the dogs out to go potty during the day least some over-zealous hunter shoots and hits one of them. At just that moment two Dodge type trucks were driving by towing these small metal boxes. The dogs were so worked up they ran right up to the road and one of the trucks hit Judah.

God’s hand was with him though a he was hit by the box the one truck was towing. If he’d been hit a moment sooner the truck would have run him down, a moment later and the truck following would have hit him.

I saw Judah roll over on the street right after I heard a clanging noise of the metal box shaking. At first I thought he’d been hit, but he got right up and ran down the driveway. Then I though he must have just slipped. But either way I was going to call my siblings and get him to the vet. You really don’t want to take a chance with a dog and a car!

While I ran to get the phone, Judah made his way up to the front porch and I saw he actually was nicked. The back end where his tail is had no fur and looked like even his skin was rubbed off. There was blood, but I didn’t have time to even look very much as I wanted to hurry and get someone home so they could take us to the vet!

In the end Judah ended up being in surgery for over 3 hours. He had so much gravel on him that most of the day was spent prepping him for surgery. They got as much gravel and tissue as they could and then stitched him up! He had to stay at the vet’s until Saturday, but even when I saw him for the first time, he was much better than I thought.

Here he is with Rachel-he was very upset while we were driving down to Florida and refused to go back in the house. She had to go talk to him and spend some time with him outside before he decided to go back inside.

He may be shaved, but his skin is still there…in fact, they called it his flap. His spine wasn’t crushed or injured, no internal injuries, no broken bones, his lungs are clear! Overall, he’s doing really well so far!

I’m so grateful God kept him safe! Right now we are trying to get him to rest as much as possible and of course keeping him on his pills to stave off infection or anything else. He’s supposed to go next week for to get his stitches out and I’m hoping that will go alright.

He is draining from his stitches right now, but I was told it’s normal. What I’m really hoping is that when he’s healed he will have no trouble walking or moving around. He’s not the youngest dog and I’m sure an accident like this doesn’t help with the aging process!

So after the thing with Judah, I kept busy at home. With my brother, Mike home I wasn’t able to get too much done with moving the rest of my mom’s stuff into storage and getting things cleaned out and organized in the house. So I’ve been working on getting all of that done. What a lot of work it’s been! I know it will be worth it in the end!

I am looking forward to thing settling down so I can really get to work on my writing and more music. God has been showing me so much and giving me so much to share that I’m overflowing! I try to write when I can, but I’m trusting that He will give me the words when the time is right!

Overall, the last month has had many bumps in the road, but I can clearly see God’s hand through every step, bruise and stumble. He has protected, guided, provided and lifted us up. I’m grateful we have a God like him watching over us!

Bumps, Bruises and oh so many Blessing!
